What a locksmith costs in Dallas, TX

We don't publish "from $19" teaser prices — they almost always end in a much higher final bill. Instead, here is honest guidance on what drives locksmith pricing in Dallas. Call us for the real number for your job.

How locksmith pricing usually works

Every locksmith job in Dallas ends up priced from some combination of these factors:

  • Service call — the cost of dispatching a technician and a truck.
  • Labor — how long the work takes on-site.
  • Hardware — locks, cylinders, fobs, keys, and any other parts.
  • Time of day — after-hours and overnight work costs more.
  • Distance — how far from our Forest Ln office to your address.
  • Complexity — a basic deadbolt rekey vs. a high-security lock job.

Whenever you call, we use these inputs to give you a real number. We do not give a low price to win the call and then surprise you on-site.

Pricing guidance by service

Lockouts

A residential or business lockout in Dallas is usually billed as service call + on-site work. The exact number depends on the lock type, how stuck the door is, and the time of day. Most simple home lockouts are quick and inexpensive; high-security or commercial locks cost more.

Car lockouts

Vehicle lockouts depend a lot on the vehicle. A simple unlock on an older car is one price; modern vehicles with deeper interior tolerances or smart key issues cost more. See car lockout service for details.

Rekey

Rekey is typically priced per cylinder plus a service call. If you have one front door, that's usually one cylinder. A "rekey the whole house" job might be 4–6 cylinders. High- security cylinders cost more per cylinder than standard ones. See rekey locks service.

Lock change

Lock change is material plus labor. A basic deadbolt costs less than a smart lock; a full keyed entry set costs more than a deadbolt alone. We help you pick the right hardware for the door and budget. See lock change service.

Car key replacement

Car key pricing varies more than any other service. A basic mechanical key for an older car can be very cheap. A modern transponder or push-to-start fob can range significantly higher because of the chip, the blank, and the programming. Call with the year, make, and model and we'll give you a real number. See car key replacement.

Commercial locksmith work

Commercial jobs are quoted job-by-job — office rekey, master-key systems, panic hardware, and high-security cylinders all have different pricing models. We can give you a written quote for larger jobs. See commercial locksmith.

What to give us on the phone for an accurate quote

  • The service you need (lockout, rekey, car key, lock change…).
  • The Dallas-area address or ZIP code.
  • For car jobs: year, make, model, and whether you have any working keys.
  • For home jobs: number of doors / cylinders, lock brand if known.
  • For business jobs: number of doors, type of lock, any compliance requirements.
  • Whether it's an emergency or a scheduled job.

With those inputs we can usually quote you in under 60 seconds.

Common pricing questions

Why don't you publish exact prices?

Locksmith jobs are not standardized. The same "rekey" can mean two cylinders or twelve, with cheap hardware or high-security. A "lockout" can be a $15 latch flip or a complex high-security ignition. Posting a single price would be misleading. We give you the actual price on the phone once we know your specific job.

What is a service-call fee?

It's the base charge to dispatch a licensed locksmith and a truck to your address. It covers the drive, the diagnostic time, and the basic work on-site. Larger jobs (full rekey, lock change, car key programming) add to it; small jobs may be covered by it.

Why is the price different at 3 AM than at 3 PM?

After-hours work in Dallas typically costs more — the technician has to be on call instead of asleep, and overnight emergencies usually require dropping other plans. We tell you the night rate on the phone, not after we show up.

Is there a way to get a cheaper rate?

Yes — schedule a non-urgent job for a regular weekday window instead of nights or weekends, do multiple jobs in one visit (e.g. rekey all locks at once), and keep your existing hardware if it's still in good shape.

Are you cheaper than the dealership for car keys?

For most cars made in the last 10–15 years, an automotive locksmith is usually cheaper than the dealership and faster — we come to you instead of you waiting for the dealer's schedule. For some very new vehicles or rare models, the dealer is still the right call. We will tell you which one is cheaper for your specific year/make/model.

Do you guarantee the work?

We stand behind the labor and the hardware we install. If a lock we installed fails because of our work or the hardware, call us and we'll come back. We'll explain the specific warranty terms during the job.
