Key Fob Programming in Dallas, TX
Key fob programming, replacement, and re-pairing for most vehicles — done on-site in Dallas.
Key fobs are small electronics. They have batteries, transmitters, and a pairing relationship with your car’s computer. When any one of those goes wrong, the fix is rarely “buy a new fob from the dealer.”
Replace the coin battery first. CR2032 is the most common cell in modern fobs, costs about three dollars at a drugstore, and solves more “broken fob” calls than any other single fix. If a fresh battery doesn’t restore function, then the fob itself or the vehicle pairing has likely failed and is worth a proper service call.
Common situations we handle
- Bought a replacement fob online and need it programmed to your vehicle.
- Fob is intermittent — sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.
- Lost a fob and need a new one programmed.
- Need an additional fob for a second driver.
- Push-to-start fob battery is fine but the car doesn't recognize it anymore.
- After a dealership service, your fob stopped working — needs re-pairing.
How the service works
- Tell us your vehicle's year, make, model, and what's going on with the fob.
- We confirm whether your vehicle uses a protocol we can program.
- We quote a price and ETA for mobile service or appointment at the office.
- On arrival, we connect to the vehicle's computer, program the fob, and test all functions (lock, unlock, trunk, remote start, push-to-start if applicable).
- You confirm everything works and we leave.
Why fobs stop working
The most common reason: battery. Replace the coin cell battery and try again before doing anything more expensive. The second most common reason: a software glitch in the vehicle that requires re-pairing the fob (which any decent mobile locksmith can do). The third: the fob itself has failed and needs replacement. We'll diagnose on-site before recommending a new fob.
Programming vs cutting
Many fobs include a metal emergency key blade. The blade needs to be cut on a key machine; the chip/RF transmitter inside the fob needs to be programmed via the vehicle's diagnostic port. These are two separate steps. A real automotive locksmith does both.
What we cannot guarantee
Some very new luxury vehicles have closed security protocols — we'll be honest if your specific year/make/model is something only the dealer can do. We never want to take your money for a job we then can't complete.

What it costs
Pricing depends on the lock, the situation, the time of day, and how far we drive. We confirm the price on the phone before we send a technician.
- Programming an existing fob costs less than supplying a new one + programming.
- Push-to-start fobs are typically pricier than basic transponder remotes.
- European and some luxury vehicles may cost more or require dealer.
- Bringing a working fob makes the process faster and usually cheaper.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to bring the car to you?
Almost never. Fob programming is mobile — we drive to your car. We need the vehicle present because we connect to its computer.
I bought a fob online. Can you just program it?
Often yes, as long as it's the right part for your vehicle. We'll verify it on the phone before scheduling.
Why does my fob still work for door locks but not push-to-start?
Because the door-lock RF transmitter and the proximity/start transponder are different parts inside the fob. One can fail while the other works. We diagnose on-site.
Will programming a new fob disable the old one?
Depends on the vehicle. Some vehicles let you keep multiple fobs active; others require erasing old fobs when programming a new one. We tell you what we're doing before we do it.
What about remote-start fobs?
If your vehicle has factory remote start, we can usually program the remote-start functions along with the basic lock/unlock. If you have an aftermarket remote-start system, that's a different installation — we'll tell you on the phone.
Is fob programming cheaper than at the dealer?
For most vehicles, yes. For some 2023+ luxury vehicles, the dealer is the right call — we're transparent about which is which.
